Haven Finishes 4-0 at LHU Classic

This past weekend was the LHU Classic.  We were all so excited to both play and defend our home court. Throughout the four matches that we played between Friday and Saturday, we finally put our skills together and played mindfully which is something we needed to work on.  There was so much effort being put out on the court; we all worked as a team instead of individually.  Instead of playing good one match and not the other, we consistently played at a high level each game.  After this weekend, we are all aware of our capabilities as a team and playing through the full 25 points instead of stopping half way through.  Just in this weekend, I feel we got so much better, both individually and as a team.  I'm proud to say we went 4-0; we definitely defended our home court!

LHU Classic

This weekend we have another 4-game tournament.  It is a great chance to see how we will defend our home gym.  We have been practicing and preparing for competition.  This week went well at practice so I am very excited to see how we will compete at home.  I am also very excited to have the atmosphere of playing at home, with family, friends, and our crazy fans there to support us and see what we have been working so hard for.

Bald Eagles Finish 1-3 at Ashland Tournament

This past weekend we played in a tournament at Ashland University in Ohio. We started off rough, losing our first two matches to Ashland and Wheeling Jesuit. Which were two very good teams, but we didn’t play to our ability. Starting out Saturday we knew the change that we’ve been talking about need to be made. We finally started playing the way that we knew we should have been Friday- playing our game for all 25 points and earning every point. We ended up beating Cedarville in five games and losing to Tusculum in five. Even though we ended the weekend 1-3 I think as a team we learned a lot about who we are and what we can accomplish as a team.

Team is Preparing for Tournament in Ashland, Ohio

This weekend we’re traveling to Ashland University in Ohio for another tournament. We’re currently 4-0 on the season and are looking to remain undefeated after this weekend. The schedule is to play Ashland and Wheeling Jesuit on Friday and Cedarville and Tusculum on Saturday. I’m really excited to get on the road, especially because of the great time we had last weekend. We all worked very hard, played at a high level, and had tons of fun as a team. I think that we’ll continue to push hard for wins and this weekend is going to be a blast!

Haven Finishes 4-0 at Ram Rumble

We started the weekend off facing Pace, and as seen in that first set they wanted to win it as much as we did. We had the crowd biting their nails before the 26-24 concluding score but behind the scenes, the team didn't lack a bit of confidence. Which, as a senior, is so rewarding to see our progress along this "grand process" Dan has laid out for us. Even though Pace came back and challenged us the next set, we adapted and closed the match in four. The best part being that we were still just as hyped and ready to play Shepherd later that evening.

We knew the Shepherd match would be a tough one since it was on their home court. We did not want to add extra pressure to ourselves knowing that we were playing in their gym. Looking back on it, I don't even think it crossed our minds. We kept reminding ourselves that no one hands over a win. We had another job to take care of. Shepherd was persistent, but we worked to control the ball on our side and execute point scoring plays. We capped Friday with a solid 3 set win allowing us to wind down as we made way towards King's Pizzeria. It was a great way to end the day with a lot of laughter at dinner.

With Saturday's arrival brought two more games-Bowie State and Barry. After reflecting on the previous day's wins we addressed what things we wanted to adjust and executed each match. We wanted to leave the tournament 4-0. All four games helped us expand our comfort zones and open our eyes to what we could accomplish! So as we left the tournament with an unanimous description of "fun”! We also left with a confidence that our hard work will take us as far as we want to go.

To cap off the weekend, Jess Brown and Cody Anderson were named to the All Tournament Team! We were happy for them to receive this award, but we all realized these accomplishments couldn't have been possible with out the rest of the team!

Haven Prepares for First Tournament

We went into this week working hard in practice to get ready for our first tournament. This weekend we are heading down to West Virginia for the Shepherd Tournament. We will play Pace, Bowie State, Barry, and Shepherd. Our team worked very hard to get the best options that will help us compete and win when it counts. We have put in the hours on and off the court from practicing, watching film, and watching a motivational movie. We have been waiting for this moment and we are very excited to finally compete against other teams for a tallied win!

20 Questions and Answers

Sarah is a freshman outside hitter from Hunlock Creek, PA.

1. Why did you come to Lock Haven University?
I came to Lock Haven because I really enjoy what the school has to offer. They have good classrooms, nice facilities, and they have a tremendous volleyball program. It is also a smaller school which is something that I was looking for in a college.

2. What celebrity would you like to hang out with for a day? Why?
I would want to spend a day with Mariah Carey. She is beautiful, talented and has an amazing voice. Who wouldn’t want to spend a day with her?

3. What is your least favorite food?
It’s hard to pick a least favorite food because I like all kinds of food, but if I had to pick on I would say any kind of nut. Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, you name it I don’t like it. I don’t like the taste, the texture or anything about them.

4. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Why?
If I could live anywhere it would be Hawaii. Do I even need to explain why? It is beautiful and perfect there in every single way. I mean, I’ve never been there before but I have seen pictures of it! it would be like a lifelong vacation.

5. What is your most embarrassing moment?
This one is a very tough one, considering I happen to embarrass myself 24/7. Other than slipping and falling, dropping and spilling things quite often, I can name an embarrassing moment that I had this past track season. For track and field districts, I ran the 100 meter hurdles and I needed a sticker with the number 6 to put on my uniform since I was in lane I asked the person distributing the numbers, “Can I have a number 6, sir?” The person then looks up at me and says, “I’m not a sir, I’m a ma’am” with a pretty scary look on her face. Needless to say it was very awkward.

6. What is your biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve is when people exaggerate or lie about any accomplishment. Also, if they aren’t very talented at whatever they do, when they brag about how “amazing” they are, it really bothers me.

7. Who is your role model?
My role model would have to be my mother. She has done so much for me over the last 17+ years of my life. She always does everything that she can for me and sister, even if it is a heavy burden for her. I really appreciate her and I hope I can be half the woman she is someday.

8. What is your favorite pro sports team?
Pittsburg Penguins all the way!

9. What do you like most about game day?
I love feeling so pumped, excited and focused on game days that I can’t even concentrate on anything else going on.

10. What are your pregame rituals?
Some of my pregame rituals are listening to music that really gets me pumped up, focusing on how I want the game to turn out and what I want do during the game. I also like to have fun with my teammates and relax so there isn’t a buildup of pressure.

11. How do you want people at LHU to remember you?
I want to make a good impression on my classmates, make many friends, and have them remember me in a positive way.

A lot of people don’t know that I am deathly afraid of clowns. They are so scary!

My least favorite weight room exercise would have to be leg extensions.
